In market for new extreme PC? Wait for 3 reasons

Those who are thinking about building new cutting-edge PC this black friday, should wait it out for risk of missing on three new technologies that are coming out within one year.

1. USB 3.0
Current USB standard is USB 2.0. It was released back in 2000. The maximum speed for USB 2.0 is 480 MBits/sec.
The new USB 3.0 is going to have maximum speed of 4.8 GBits/sec. Asus and Gigabyte will have their motherboards in market early next year. NEC is introducing ~$15 addon USB 3.0 card for existing PCs

2. SATA 6.0
Current SATA is SATA3.0 OR SATA-II, which offers 300 GBits/sec. While even the fastest conventional hard disk drives can barely saturate the original SATA 1.5 Gbit/s bandwidth, Solid State Disk drives are close to saturating the SATA 3 Gbit/s limit at 250 MB/s net read speed. Ten channels of fast flash can reach well over 500 MB/s with new ONFI drives, so a move from SATA 3 Gbit/s to SATA 6 Gbit/s would benefit the flash read speeds. As for the standard hard disks, the reads from their built-in DRAM cache will end up faster across the new interface.
GigaByte already has motherboard featuring SATA6.0. Will be available in couple months.

3. Light Peak
While USB and SATA are advancing in their fields, Intel is working on its own Light Peak technology, which make use fiber-optic technology. The base speed is 10 Gbits/sec and can be scale upt 100 GBits/sec.
With Light Peak, Intel wants to eliminate, SCSI, USB, Firewire, SATA and HDMI off this planet! According to wiki, light Peak is much faster, longer ranged, smaller, and more flexible in terms of protocol support.
In the olden days, we had many connectors, serial, parallel, PS/2 etc...
USB came and vaporized all those connectors/BUSes. But USB failed to advanced rapidly and satisfy speed demands. Hence faster BUSes emerged, like HDMI, SATA, Firewire etc...
Light peak once again tries to do the same which USB failed to do! Imagine buying a motherboard and all it has in back is 20 light peak ports and nothing else!
Light Peak is expected to arrive late next year.

Money and Mind

Imagine this:

You bought $80 shoes/sandals for wedding of a very special friend of yours...on the day of wedding you realize that you lost the shoes...Shoe-shop is right around the corner. Would you slash out another $80 and get new pair? Likely NOT.

Now consider this...

For the same wedding you are in store to buy shoes for yourself and at counter you just realized that you lost the $100/- bill that you were planning to use it on this purchase. Luckily, you were having several credit cards in your wallet. Would you yank out one and go ahead with the purchase? Most likely YES.

Researchers ( ya ppl have time to pull up situations likes this and analyze it ) say that the reason you are more likely to yank out credit card is cuz you've not yet associated loss of $100 with the $80 that you are about to spend on shoes while in the former situation mentally you'd think that you'd be $160 out of pocket for a pair of shoes. ( ya he is a good friend, but u r probably not ready to slash out $160 for the shoes in his/her wedding)

I thought this was interesting theory, so I tried to put it in my own words the way it made sense to me.

============

Now another theory...

You went out to buy house. You liked it, sat down to do some price negotiation with r.estate agent. House was listed for $155K, then estate agents tells you that there is $3K lot premium going on, but on a special deal they are ready to knock of $1.5K.

Mentally we are wired to do like comparision. In above situation, back in mind we get two ooh-aah's
1. Oooh I'm getting 50% discount on lot premium
2. Aah, I'm about to buy $155K house 1.5 k is just 1%, fine let them throw in....

Would you have threw $1500 at the gas station if one is selling for $1.5/gall while other is selling it for $150/gal. In virtually all situation NO.

And yes, researchers do get paid for this....but I don't. I just feel good writing this, cuz at least I'm feeling I'm doing something than watching screen for 4 hrs for 5.6 million lines of code to compile.

So try to see money as money. Meaning $1 as $1. $3000 as $3000.

$1500 discount on a car is same as $1500 discount on a dining table. (Ohhhhhhhh this sentence would raise some battle! Bring it on pps. This ain't my theories, but sure makes sense)

Pissed off @ Palm

Are they nuts?
Are they buffoons?
Are they morons?
Are they simply just stupid?
Are these idiots on drugs?

I've been dying to get my hands on Palm Pre and just learned that there is no expansion slot in Palm Pre and it only comes in 8 GB configuration.

What kind of dumb people would leave out EXPANSION CARD in Palm Pre????????????????????? In this day and age, you just can't live with 8GB. Movies, mp3s, pictures, apps,...8 GB fills up so quickly. I've 32 GB hdd ipod and I bring it to knees since last 2 years, so imagine going forward 2-3 years. 8 GB is just not enough.

3 year old iPhone comes in 8 and 16 GB configs. Are they not learning anything from them? How can you even remotely think about competing against THE BEAST (iphone) with this kind of silliness.

==================

Another thing I'm mad about....This morning I had decided to write couple commercial apps for Palm Pre. Why Pre? cuz it's not out yet and I want to be in early adopters and put out my app first before market gets saturated. Missed the boat for iphone totally. Missed the boat for gphone and storm as well. Wanted to get a head-start on Pre, but this idiots wants me to fill out this form and then they'd decide whether they would give me SDK (software development kit) or not?

Have they looked at this page?
http://www.apple.com/iphone/?cid=OAS-US-DOMAINS-iphone.com
Yes, it says 35,000 apps and counting....

While People @ Apple are about to come with iphone 3.0, bunch of sheeple (ghenta-bakra) @ Palm are evaluating applications for developers.

I'm pissed, pissed and even more pissed.

and even more.
